What is This Mysterious Thing Called Hypnosis and Is it ‘True’?

Some people think that hypnosis is something that you ‘believe in’ or ‘don’t believe in’. This just isn’t the case at all. It’s as scientifically accepted as dreaming or imagining or meditation. In other words it’s a fact of life.

We all go in and out of hypnosis all the time.

Have you ever been daydreaming (or absorbed in an enjoyable book) and someone says your name but you don’t hear them? This is an everyday example of hypnosis.

Have you ever driven for 5 minutes on an open road and then forgotten how you drove past a particular landmark without noticing it? This is the same kind of thing and is known as ‘highway hypnosis’.

And what about hypnotherapy? Is that different from hypnosis?

Hypnotherapy is simply hypnosis but used in a clinical setting to help people to change the way they think about something or to change the results they get in life.
